Student Innovation Project: Between
This will be a game that uses two distinct art styles to enhance both the game play and eventual story that I will tell. In this game, the player character will be able to travel between two distinct worlds.
First, the neighborhood where he is from; an urban street created with vector art resembling the look of an animated feature or show. Second, a video game dungeon created in pixel art that is reminiscent of classic gaming from the mid to late nineties. Both worlds will be presented in 2D fashion, with the transition happening as the main character enters the door to his home, traveling through a dark space until the transformation is complete. I would like to create an animation of my character changing forms from his vector art form to a pixelated style.
This animation would be a step-by-step creation, showing the transition between the art styles in detail. The player would be able to see as the details on the vector model begin to morph into blocky lines, the smooth edges would begin to grow rough edges. The goal is that when the player travels between the worlds, they can run and stop mid-way and see just how much the character model transformed. There won’t be a spot where a mini cut-scene triggers and the transformation takes place automatically, but it will be something completely in the player’s control.
Current Progress

Main Character
As the player travels between worlds, his form will transform from the smooth lines of vector art to a square edged pixel style. This will require creating an animation, slowly showing the character transforming as they travel to and fro.

Setting
The setting is also split in two. The first is a living room where our main character lives, filled with knicknacks and a warm color pallet. On the opposite end, a cool and classic stone dungeon awaits the character when he's in his full pixel form. In between these two, there will be a transitional space that blends the two worlds. A place where this transformation takes place.
